I was wondering what the best method for connecting seedcode to this existing system.

I have a fm database of all our Members on a vista pc downstairs
and I want to run a POS using seedcode on a vista pc upstairs.
I'd like to leave the members database unchanged but access all the
data on the POS.

I was thinking of leaving the POS system on all the time and having the
Members user pull the fm file off the POS network share, so both fm files
could be on the same hd.

Now, now I need some pointers to access the existing Members details in seedcode fields?

thanks

Hi, The new versions of SeedCode Calendar paste into your existing members file (this version requires FileMaker 10). You can then "host" the members file downstairs and open it from a copy of FileMaker upstairs using File / Open Remote.

You do not want to share this with file sharing; check out the Sharing section in FileMaker's built in help for more on this.

Let me know if you're not using Fm10 and I'll post some more details for older versions.

Hope that helps,

John

OK. You'll still want to share the file using FileMaker's sharing instead of File Sharing. For FM8.5 and 9, you "link" SeedCode to your files following the instructions here:

http://www.seedcode.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php?n=SeedCodeCalendarPro.Integration

To get started, place the SeedCode file on the "host" machine right beside your other file and then get to work. Again, for info on what's a "host", check out the Sharing section in FileMaker's built in help for more on this.

Hope that helps,

John

As an alternative, If I wanted to *import* data from my existing fm file as seedcode Contacts, I see that the data on the Contact page is spread between several databases.. PhoneFaxEmail, Address, and Contact. Is it possible to see all the fields I want to add to in one import window, or would you have to do it in multiple phases?

Exactly, you end up doing a few imports. You can find instructions here:
